If you are interested getting your Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL), this is the class you need to take. The class is 8 hours long and includes both classroom and range time. The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA affiliation. This is an instructor-led course where you will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end. Course topics include gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, shooting range safety, and Maryland law regarding the use and possession of firearms. Students will be able to see and handle a large variety of different types of handguns during the class.
In addition to classroom instruction students will complete a live fire training exercise at a range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook and the NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program book. At the successful completion of the class, students will also receive an NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course certificate and be able to apply for your Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL). If you own a handgun, please bring it with you to class along with eye protection, ear protection, and 150 rounds of ammunition. Please leave your ammunition in your car. Class will start at 9:00AM.
