NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course

The NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home (PPITH) Course is a more advanced pistol course that is specifically designed to cover defensive shooting.  Shooting for self-defense is different and distinct from the basic shooting fundamentals in that it covers mindset, legal issues, decision-making under pressure, and planning for the worst.  The PPITH Course is designed with that exact purpose in mind.  Students interested in taking PPITH must have passed an NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course as well as a and have successfully completed a pre-course evaluation with the instructor.

Americans own firearms for a variety of reasons, but perhaps the most important reason is for the defense of home and family.  This course focuses on the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of oneself and one’s family.  Students will also learn about the laws regarding their rights to self-defense as a law-abiding citizen.

If protecting yourself and your family from intruders in a priority this course is definitely for you.  Remember when seconds count help is usually minutes away.  Don’t let anyone fool you.  You are the first responder!

During this eight-hour course students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, how to respond to a violent confrontation, and strategies for home safety.  Live fire shooting from a variety of different positions simulating different locations in your home will be one of the many highlights of this class.

Firearms and the Law as well as the Legal Aspects of Self-Defense will be taught in the PPITH Course by an attorney licensed to practice law within the State of Maryland and who is familiar with this area of the law or a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) who possesses an intermediate or higher Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certificate granted by the State of Maryland.
